| The Green Deposit is a financial instrument of the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund (KCGF) that links its deposit placements with partner banks to the financing of eligible green investments. |
|---|
Through this instrument, partner banks receive a structured and incentivised source of funding dedicated to financing activities that contribute to environmental sustainability. This establishes a clear and transparent link between the liquidity provided and the expected environmental impact.
Interest in green finance is growing in Kosovo, but practical mechanisms for directing financial resources towards sustainable investments remain limited.
The Green Deposit aims to address this need through a market-based mechanism. By attaching environmental conditions to deposit placements, it encourages partner banks to direct funding towards eligible green loans and investments while using the banking sector’s existing structures and products.
This model helps address uncertainty around the definition of green investments and reduces the risk of unsupported environmental claims or “greenwashing”.
By directing capital towards green investments, the instrument enables financing to make a concrete contribution to environmental objectives and the transition towards a more sustainable economy.
Through the Green Deposit, KCGF complements its existing role in facilitating access to finance with an additional instrument supporting environmentally responsible investments.
The instrument aims to strengthen Kosovo’s green finance ecosystem, increase cooperation with financial institutions, and contribute to a more credible, transparent and responsive market.
