KCGF and BPB Sign Agreement for the New “Green Deposit” Instrument

Pristina, June 10, 2026 – The Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund (KCGF) and BPB today signed a Cooperation Agreement for the implementation of the new financial instrument, “Green Deposit,” an innovative initiative aimed at supporting the financing of sustainable investments and accelerating Kosovo’s transition towards a green economy.

Through this instrument, KCGF will place dedicated deposits with Banka për Biznes (BPB), which will be used exclusively to finance projects and investments that contribute to environmental protection, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other activities classified as green investments. We are also pleased to highlight that this initiative is supported by the Green Private Enterprises Transformation in Kosovo (GPEK) Project, financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-financed by Sweden, and implemented by Helvetas. In line with the project’s mission to support Kosovo businesses in adopting sustainable and competitive business practices, the “Green Deposit” instrument promotes green investments, improves resource efficiency, strengthens business competitiveness, and contributes to advancing the transition towards a more sustainable and greener economy.

The signing of the agreement with BPB marks another step towards establishing a direct link between financial resources and positive environmental impact. The instrument aims to increase access to finance for green investments, strengthen Kosovo’s green finance ecosystem, and encourage financial institutions to further integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into their activities.

Through this initiative, KCGF is expanding the range of instruments it offers to the financial sector and businesses, complementing existing guarantee schemes with a new mechanism that promotes investments with positive economic and environmental impact.

During the signing ceremony, representatives of KCGF and BPB emphasized the importance of interinstitutional cooperation in creating new financial opportunities for businesses and supporting the country’s sustainable development objectives.

The “Green Deposit” has been designed to provide a transparent and reliable mechanism for financing green investments, ensuring that dedicated funds are used exclusively for activities that meet established sustainability criteria and contributing to the prevention of greenwashing practices.

Through this instrument, KCGF and BPB aim to establish a successful model that can serve as an example for the further expansion of green finance in Kosovo and contribute to building a more sustainable and resilient economy capable of responding to environmental challenges.

Statement by the Managing Director of KCGF

“The launch of the ‘Green Deposit’ instrument represents an important step in our efforts to advance green finance in Kosovo. Through this agreement with BPB, we are establishing a concrete mechanism that directly connects financial resources with investments that generate long-term environmental and economic benefits. This initiative is also supported by the Green Private Enterprises Transformation in Kosovo (GPEK) Project, financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-financed by Sweden, and implemented by Helvetas, which promotes green investments and the adoption of sustainable practices by Kosovo businesses.

At the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund, we believe that the transition towards a more sustainable economy requires not only commitment, but also innovative financial instruments that enable the private sector to invest in greener technologies and practices. The ‘Green Deposit’ is precisely such an instrument. It not only supports sustainable investments, but also strengthens the role of the financial sector in addressing climate and environmental challenges.

We are pleased that BPB is the first partner bank in the pilot phase of this instrument, and we believe that this cooperation will serve as a successful model for the further expansion of green finance in Kosovo. Together, we are building a more sustainable, innovative, and forward-looking financial ecosystem that supports the country’s long-term development.”

Statement by the Chief Executive Officer of BPB

“At BPB, we believe that the transition towards a greener economy cannot rely solely on green lending. To create lasting impact, it is equally important to engage savers and provide them with the opportunity to contribute directly to financing investments that protect the environment and create long-term value for society.

It was with this vision that BPB launched the Green Savings Account, the first product of its kind in Kosovo, expanding the concept of green finance beyond borrowing and raising public awareness of the importance of savings directed towards sustainable investments. Through this product, every saver has the opportunity to become an active participant in the green transition and contribute to building a more sustainable economy for future generations.

Today, we are particularly pleased to turn this vision into reality through the first Green Term Deposit, implemented jointly with the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund, an important partner in the development of Kosovo’s financial ecosystem. This agreement represents more than a financial instrument – it demonstrates that when institutions join forces around a common goal, they can generate real economic and environmental impact.

This initiative is a concrete example of how the partnership between BPB, KCGF, and development partners is transforming the green agenda from a vision into real investments with measurable impact on Kosovo’s economy and environment.”
