KCGF and ProCredit Bank Sign Agreement for the “Green Deposit” Instrument
Pristina, 19 August 2026 – The Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund (KCGF) and ProCredit Kosovo today signed a cooperation agreement for the implementation of the new financial instrument “Green Deposit,” an innovative initiative aimed at supporting the financing of sustainable investments by businesses and accelerating Kosovo’s transition towards a green economy.
Through this instrument, KCGF places dedicated deposits with partner banks, which will be used exclusively to finance projects and investments that contribute to environmental protection, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other activities defined as green investments. In line with the project’s mission to support Kosovo enterprises in adopting sustainable and competitive business practices, the “Green Deposit” instrument promotes green investments, enhances resource efficiency, strengthens business competitiveness, and contributes to advancing the transition towards a more sustainable and greener economy. This initiative is supported by the “Green Transformation of Private Enterprises in Kosovo” (GPEK) Project. GPEK is a project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-financed by Sweden and implemented by Helvetas.
The agreement with ProCredit Bank represents an important step towards expanding the implementation of the “Green Deposit” instrument and strengthening cooperation between KCGF and the banking sector in support of sustainable investments. The instrument aims to create greater financing opportunities for businesses investing in green solutions and to contribute to strengthening the green finance ecosystem in Kosovo. Through the “Green Deposit,” KCGF complements existing financing support mechanisms with an additional instrument that links the placement of deposits with the financing of green investments. In this way, the instrument aims to encourage the more strategic use of capital and support a more active role for financial institutions in financing the green transition.
During the signing ceremony, representatives of KCGF and ProCredit emphasized the importance of interinstitutional cooperation in creating new financing opportunities for businesses and supporting the country’s sustainable development objectives.
The “Green Deposit” has been designed to provide a transparent and reliable mechanism for financing green investments, ensuring that dedicated funds are used exclusively for activities that meet defined sustainability criteria and contributing to the prevention of greenwashing practices.
Statement by the Managing Director of KCGF
“The launch of the ‘Green Deposit’ instrument represents an important step in our efforts to advance green finance in Kosovo. Through this agreement with ProCredit, we are establishing a concrete mechanism that directly links financial resources with investments that generate long-term environmental and economic benefits. This initiative is also supported by the ‘Green Transformation of Private Enterprises in Kosovo’ (GPEK) Project, financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-financed by Sweden and implemented by Helvetas, which promotes green investments and the adoption of sustainable business practices by Kosovo enterprises.
At the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund, we believe that the transition towards a more sustainable economy requires not only commitment, but also innovative financial instruments that enable the private sector to invest in greener technologies and practices. The ‘Green Deposit’ is precisely such an instrument. It not only supports sustainable investments, but also strengthens the role of the financial sector in addressing climate and environmental challenges.
We are pleased that ProCredit is a partner bank under this instrument, and we believe that this cooperation will serve as a successful model for further expanding green finance in Kosovo. Together, we are building a more sustainable, innovative, and development-oriented financial ecosystem that supports the country’s long-term growth.”
Statement by the Chief Executive Officer of ProCredit Kosovo
“Through this cooperation, KCGF and ProCredit Bank aim to support increased financing for green investments and contribute to the development of a financial sector that is more strongly oriented towards sustainable investments and the needs of businesses in Kosovo.”
